As a charity committed to our community, local people are firmly at the heart of all we do – and those people like to understand our purpose and how we go about our work.
Making sure we can deliver what our clients need takes not only a devoted and compassionate team but also complete understanding of a clear vision of what we aim to achieve, a mission which states how we will make the vision a reality, and a set of values which underpin our work.

Our Vision
- To continue to be the organisation of choice for our members and always be led and supported by a team that passionately believes in them.
- To support members in having every opportunity to develop all skills and confidence possible so they can live the life of choice.
- To fully involve our membership every step of the way and to stay flexible and responsive to members needs and wishes – so that we remain truly member led.
- To have informed Trustees making informed decisions. A skilled and enthusiastic team all singing (or at least warbling) from the same hymn sheet.
- To ensure the right training for all members, staff and volunteers.
- To work to ensure financial sustainability throughout all service and continue planned sharing of resources for best value. Good financial planning for the future.
- To meet all areas of Charity Governance, Health and Safety and to remain aware of Government policy and priorities. Steady growth of well-trained enthusiastic volunteers, supported by Volunteer Coordinators.
- To continually listen, adapt and develop to provide supported living accommodation, community outreach and bespoke services that fit our member’s needs.
- To Work as advocates for our members as needed and teach self-advocacy skills.

Our Mission
About with Friends’ mission is to give people with learning disabilities the opportunities they are entitled to and to live the life that they deserve. We are made up of full time and part-time staff, volunteers and valued supporters. We offer support, activities, guidance and care. These pages offer you the opportunity to learn a little bit about our ethos and values. We started from a kitchen table and have grown to a large organisation at the heart of the community in Cromer. We’re proud of this achievement, but we couldn’t have done it without the unstinting support of volunteers, trustees, our staff and of course our wonderful members!

Our Values
- We should support members in making real friendships.
- We should provide real work opportunities for our members.
- We should provide members with real choice to the skills they develop.
- We must support people to live independently in their own homes.
- We must provide a range of fun planned activities which allow families/carers respite.
- We should listen to feedback from members and families and respond.
- We will integrate individuals with complex needs into the About with Friends family.
- We should always value our staff, Trustees and volunteers.
